The day is packed with exciting activities for all ages, from fun runs to festive parades, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.
Kicking off Christmas 2024
This event starts at 30/11/2024 09:30am and is being held at Town Centre. Tickets free. Click here for more information.
Car parking is also free courtesy of the Town Council in the Gravel Car Park all day and from 6pm in Back Lane Car Park.
All events take place in High Street unless stated.
Santa Run - 2pm
The Santa Run returns, and it’s already shaping up to be a major highlight of the day! With over 100 Santa’s already signed up, runners will join together in their festive outfits to take on the 5K course that loops through Newtown’s scenic streets.
Starting at 2pm from High Street in front of the trailer stage, participants will run across into the Town Hall Grounds, past Open Newtown, down Trehafren Fields, and loop back alongside the river, passing the Elephant and Castle, before heading back to the finish line at Open Newtown.
Entry is free, and everyone will receive a Santa Run medal for their participation. Remember to sign up online. There’s even a special prize for the best-dressed runner, so make sure to bring your most festive outfit!
Alex Davies - 3pm
After the Santa Run, relax and enjoy some live music by local artist Alex Davies at 3pm.
Sax to the Rhythm - 4pm
At 4pm, Sax to the Rhythm will perform on stage, bringing smooth jazz and upbeat rhythms to keep the festive energy going strong.
Bike Parade Gather @ Hafan yr Afon - 5pm
The Illuminated Bike Parade, starting at 5pm. Participants are invited to decorate their bikes, trikes, scooters, rollerblades, prams, and even mobility scooters in the most festive way possible. Fancy dress is encouraged, and the streets will light up as the parade winds through the town.
Arrival of Santa - 5pm
Santa will be making his grand arrival at 5pm, delighting children and adults alike as he joins in the festivities.
New Dynamic Choir - 5pm
The New Dynamic Choir will take to the stage at 5pm, filling the air with Christmas carols and setting the tone for the evening’s celebrations.
Bike Parade Begins - 5:15pm
At 5:15pm, the illuminated Bike Parade will kick off from Hafan yr Afon, creating a stunning display of festive lights as it makes its way through High Street.
Christmas Lights Switch-On - 6pm
At 6pm, the official Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place, transforming the town centre into a winter wonderland. The lights will twinkle as the festive season officially begins in Newtown.
Fireworks to Music - 6:15pm
A Fireworks to Music display at 6:15pm will bring the evening to a close. The dazzling firework show will be set to tunes, providing a breathtaking experience for all.
Built 4 Comfort - 7pm at 23 Social
To close out the evening, head over to 23 Social at 7pm for a live performance by Built 4 Comfort, ensuring the party continues into the night.
Throughout the day, don’t miss the wonderful additions to the event, including donkeys on High Street and indoor stalls under cover.
There will also be a children's fairground outside Boots on High Street, offering a variety of fun rides and activities for the little ones.
