The other two elements of how Council Tax is formed - Powys County Council and Police & Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywellyn have yet to release any draft budget documents for 25/26.

The town council gets almost all it's entire budget from the Council Tax precept, which it levies on households in it's boundaries.

Next Monday night, town councillors are set to discuss the 2nd draft budget for the 25/26 financial year.

This budget is expected to reach over £1m with a total expenditure of £1,007,703.

The budget papers indicate that a precept of £991,802 could be levied - an increase of £95,800 from the amount they requested this year. You can see where your council tax was spent this year using our interactive tool.

As the number of dwellings paying Council Tax have fallen in the Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn community, then this could result in a council tax increase of 10.7% or £21.48 per annum for a Band D household.

The biggest areas of expenditure which have seen rises is Staffing (9.2% increase), Vehicles & Plant (29.7% increase), Play Areas (75.8% increase) and Tourism (54.2% increase).

It might be that town councillors cut out the proposed £20,000 Major Refurbishment Fund to save costs.

This is subject to change as the town council moves through the budget setting process, with the final budget being set on Tuesday 14th January 2025.
