In a disappointing turn of events for residents and visitors the much-anticipated arrival of new trains on the Cambrian Line has been pushed back once again.

Originally slated for the end of 2023 and then rescheduled for this year, the new rolling stock is now not expected to be in operation until at least the end of 2025.

Expressing his disappointment at the prolonged delay, Russell George, Senedd Member for Montgomeryshire, voiced concerns over the ongoing poor performance of the rail service.  He said:

"Sadly, the rail service we receive in Montgomeryshire continues to be poor with trains regularly being cancelled, delayed, or overcrowded"

"A new fleet of trains is being built for the Cambrian Line to run on the unique signalling system. Unfortunately, there have been delays"

"This is very disappointing when the new stock is already being used on the lines in other parts of Wales. I am assured these trains will deliver increased capacity for passengers and will also run with faster acceleration, allowing services to meet the timetable more reliably."

Mr George emphasised his commitment to addressing the ongoing challenges faced by commuters, especially following the recent train collision at Talerddig, which exacerbated issues of overcrowding and delays.

He vowed to continue pressing Transport for Wales to expedite the introduction of the new trains to enhance the overall service quality for Newtown residents.

"I continue to raise these issues with Transport for Wales and have also raised in the Senedd Chamber with the new First Minister" said Mr George.
