Newtown residents are in for a treat this June as local organisations come together at the Town Hall Grounds for a Newtown ShareFest - a day filled with swapping, sustainability, and plenty of fun.

Taking place in the Town Hall Grounds on the 15th June from 12pm, the afternoon promises to be both educational and entertaining.

  Summer Sharefest

This event starts at 15/06/2024 12:00pm and is being held at Hafan yr Afon. Tickets free. Click here for more information.

Join Open Energy for their Swapping Station, where attendees can bring clean clothes, toys, books, art pieces, and plants to exchange for something new (second-hand, of course). Tokens will be given in exchange for items brought in, which can then be swapped for other treasures.

Don't worry if you have nothing to bring as you can join Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and Keep Wales Tidy in a litter pick to earn tokens.

Food lovers can bring their own picnics and blankets to enjoy the festival atmosphere.

Newtown Food Surplus will be hosting a Food Share where surplus food will be available for attendees to take, with donations welcome. The initiative aims to reduce food waste and address food poverty, welcoming everyone to share in the surplus food collected.

Music enthusiasts can look forward to a Folk Session where they are encouraged to bring an instrument to share traditional folk tunes.

Additionally, a variety of activities will be available for all ages to enjoy. Keep Wales Tidy will be hosting workshops on upcycling and skill-sharing, while Bike to the Future offers free triage repairs and a bigger bike library.

For those interested in arts and crafts, there will be activities led by local artists and artisans. Sewn 4 You will be offering upcycling workshops using worn out garments and fabric scraps, providing an opportunity to learn how to use a sewing machine. Oriel Davies Gallery will have workshops throughout the day, including badge making and creating community picnic blankets using recycled materials.

Cultivate will also be present, offering a range of activities such as a Carbon Top Trumps game and making beeswax wraps.

The festival is part of the Great Big Green Week, celebrating community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.
