The Mayor of Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn, Cllr John Bryne comments:

“It is wonderful to see that following a community request the Town Council is able to show support to the Powys Pride event in Llandrindod Wells this weekend. Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is committed to values and principles of equality, respect and valuing diversity.  Flags are symbols which give a visual message about the town and the council values to the local community and to the outside world, and flying the LGBTQ+ Rainbow flag demonstrates the commitment.”

A spokesperson from the Town Council said:

Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council has two flag poles on the outside of Brisco House building at the corner of Broad Street and Severn Street. The Town Council has a Flag Flying Policy which outlines when and how the Council will fly flags from the two poles. Usually the Welsh National Flag (Y Ddraig Goch) and Union Flag are flown. Occasionally the Union Flag is replaced by other flags.

The Town Council’s Flag Flying Policy invites requests from the community which are “consistent with the published values of the Town Council” under the “Community Request” flags can be flown to celebrate international, national and community wide events or causes which are non-denominational, charitable and not-for-profit. Applications are welcomed by individuals who live, work or learn in Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn; or organisations or groups based in or operating in Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn.
