Powys County Council is proposing to increase rents on Council housing by 5.36% from April 2023.

At a Cabinet meeting next Tuesday (17th January), county councillors will discuss raising Council housing rents for all 5,500 council owned homes by 5.36%.

The County Council is a social landlord for 5,500 council homes across Powys and raises approximately £27 million a year in rental income. The paper to be considered proposes raising these rents by 5.36%, lower than the 6.5% maximum set by Welsh Government which the Council could raise rents by and much lower than CPI inflation of 10.1%.

It is also proposing to raise garage rents by 6.5%, Gypsy and Traveller pitches by 5.36% and other service charges.

The rises will generate an additional £1.4 million which is collected in the Housing Revenue Account (HRA), a ringfenced fund which Powys uses for all landlord related services.

If agreed, the new rents will take affect on the 3rd April 2023.
