Newtown Textile Museum invites both children and adults to immerse themselves in the town's rich industrial heritage through a series of engaging activities this summer.

Located in a historical hand-loom weaving factory built in the 1830s, the museum offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and learn about the town's past.

Children can enjoy the free drop-in tapestry workshops on Tuesdays throughout August, from 2pm to 4pm. On Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, visitors can witness the craftsmanship of weaver Kay-lee Davies, as she works on one of the looms in the museum.

Additionally, children have the chance to dress up in period costumes every day the museum is open. This immersive experience allows them to fully embrace the historical setting and chreate a deeper connection to the past.

A Textile Trail has been set up to aid in identifying various objects within the museum, providing an interactive and educational experience for young visitors. 

Weaving played a vital role in converting sheep's fleece into flannel and woven cloth, and understanding this process allows visitors to appreciate the significance of the textile industry in Newtown's development.

The volunteer-run museum also offers insight into the daily lives of people who lived and worked in the building, as well as the industrial history of Newtown. Visitors can explore the various processes involved in transforming fleece into flannel.

Additionally, the museum showcases industries related to wool, including tanning, clog-making, and drapers' shops.

The museum has also been commended for its excellent curation, with visitors appreciating the comprehensive and captivating displays. Don't miss the chance to explore the only remaining intact hand-loom weaving factory out of 82 such buildings in Newtown's history.
