“We wish to express our great sadness following the passing of Her Majesty. On behalf of the people of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to The Royal family at this sad time.”

Sunday 11th Sept, 3.30pm - Regional Proclamation Day

The Mayor will read the official Proclamation of Accession outside the Town Council offices at The Cross, Broad Street.

The Mayor, Town Clerk and Councillors will then lead the townspeople to the War Memorial Gardens to lay a bouquet of flowers. Space will be provided for those that wish to lay their own flowers after the Mayor has done so.

Books of condolence will be available to sign at the Town Council offices between 11am – 3pm Monday to Friday from Monday 12th Sept.

County Council books of condolence will also be available at Newtown Library.

On the day of the funeral, there will be a two-minute silence at 11am. The Mayor, with the Town Clerk, will lead the silence from outside the Town Council offices at The Cross, Broad Street.

Purple commemorative lighting will be displayed at St. Mary’s Church.

Flags at the Town Council offices will be lowered and black-banded as a mark of respect throughout the mourning period until the day after the funeral.

On national Proclamation Day (Sat 10th Sept), flags will be raised to full mast until the local proclamation has been read on the afternoon of 11th Sept.

Council meetings and Mayoral engagements are cancelled until the day after the funeral.
