Issued under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, the dispersal order granted officers the authority to instruct individuals causing harassment, alarm, or distress to vacate the area.
Under the order’s terms, police were also able to confiscate any items suspected of contributing to antisocial activities. A person commits an offence if they do not comply with the order and can be sentenced to a maximum of 3 months in prision, or a fine.
Dyfed Powys Police have revealed that two people have been arrested for breaches of the order and they will be referred to the youth offending team.
A spokesperson for the authority also added:
"The neighbourhood policing and prevention team is working closely with partners, which include the local authority, and will report to them with updates and results from the action taken."
"Feedback from local businesses and individuals has been positive – including some of the parents of those youngsters who have been dispersed – with an understanding that the objective is to ensure Newtown is a safe place to live and visit."
"Officers encourage people living in Newtown to continue to report antisocial behaviour, while also urging parents to be aware of where their children are and what they are doing."
