The dispersal order, authorized under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, will be in effect starting today (15th of October 2024) at 5pm.

This measure will cover Newtown East electoral ward and Newtown Skate Park for a period of 48 hours.
According to the announcement, police officers and PCSOs now have the authority to instruct individuals engaging in, or likely to engage in, behavior causing harassment, alarm, or distress to vacate the designated area.

Additionally, they are empowered to seize any items suspected of contributing to anti-social behavior.
According to the statement on social media, a spokesperson said:
"Officers in Newtown have been given extra powers to deal with anyone involved in anti-social behaviour today."

Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2012 allows the police to issue a dispersal order for a specified area. A person commits an offence if they do not comply with the order and can be sentenced to a maximum of 3 months in prision, or a fine.
