The game kicked off with a promising start, as both teams demonstrated their attacking intent early on. However, it was TNS who managed to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute, courtesy of an unfortunate own goal by Newtown's Kieran Mills-Evans. Despite their best efforts to equalise, Newtown found themselves trailing by a goal as the first half came to a close.
Yellow cards were brandished throughout the game, reflecting the intensity of the match. Newtown's George Hughes was cautioned just 5 minutes into the game, followed by Craig Harrison, the TNS First Team Manager, receiving a yellow card in the 20th minute.
The physicality of the game continued, with Callum Roberts, Ryan Sears, Callum McKenzie, Louis Robles, and Kieran Mills-Evans from Newtown also finding themselves in the referee's notebook at various points during the match.
The tension on the field escalated further in the 84th minute when Newtown's Matty Jones was shown a red card, reducing Newtown to ten men for the remainder of the game.
With this result, Newtown maintains their position in 5th place in the league standings, currently holding 36 points. Although the loss is undoubtedly disappointing, Newtown remains determined to bounce back in their upcoming fixture against Connah's Quay on March 29th, 2024.
