An ambitious planning application has been submitted to Powys County Council by Active Newtown for the redevelopment of the sports facility at Recreation Ground on Pool Road in Newtown.
The application is for "Demolition of existing sports facility building and erection of new multi-use facility building." and was submitted in October, however only just being 'validated' in the planning process this week.

The new structure is set to include changing rooms, toilets, a function room/office space, a multi-use gym, and enhancements to access and parking space.
According to the planning statement by Hughes Architects, the project intends to replace the outdated 1970s changing room building and portacabin dressing rooms with a modern, sustainable facility designed to serve the community well into the future.
"The new building will provide highly sustainable modern facility to take the recreation ground into the next 150 years," the statement reads.
The plans have also gained the backing of local MP, Steve Witherden back in September.
Town councillors will convene to discuss the application in February, with the final verdict resting with Powys County Council's Planning Committee or delegated officers.
