Starting on May 1 until September 20, the museum will commence its main season, offering free admission to all who wish to delve into the rich heritage it holds.
This season will feature a new exhibition showcasing the pioneering work of local photographer John Owen. Known for capturing images of noteworthy residents in Montgomeryshire during the mid-19th century, Owen's legacy will be on display for visitors to appreciate.
In May, the museum will host Barbara Cole, a talented local weaver and teacher, for a series of workshops focusing on the rigid heddle loom weaving method. Participants will have the opportunity to create either a scarf or hanging during the sessions held on May 8, 15, and 22 from 1pm to 4pm. Limited spaces are available, so booking in advance through Eventbrite is advisable.
Operated by a dedicated team of volunteers, the museum is actively looking to expand its workforce. Enthusiasts interested in preserving Newtown's rich textile history are encouraged to join and contribute to the museum's mission.
For those who appreciate handcrafted textiles, the museum's shop offers a range of artisanal treasures created by local craftspeople. Visitors can explore and purchase these unique items, supporting the local talent and craftsmanship.
Don't miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in Newtown's textile heritage at the Newtown Textile Museum this season!
