The original planning application, which advocated for the demolition of the existing car business building to make way for a new structure featuring ground floor retail space and four flats, has faced staunch opposition.

Critics argue that the height of the proposed building does not fit in with the surrounding area. In response to the concerns raised, the revised application was "called in" by the local county councillor for the committee to determine, instead of planning officers.
Earlier this year, councillors considered the original the planning application, which received criticism from residents, with 124 objections being raised about issues including the impact on nearby historic buildings and the conservation area. In March, councillors refused the original application.
The revised planning application is due to be reviewed by the planning committee on August 10, and officers have recommended its approval with certain conditions.
