The day started with a church service held at All Saints Church at 9:30am.

The civic remembrance parade and ceremony left Broad Street at 10:45 and included a service of remembrance at the War Memorial gardens.

The names of those who are inscribed on the town's cenotaph were read out by police cadets and the first wreath was laid by Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Mr William Ransford, followed by the Mayor on behalf of the town.

The parade ended back in Broad Street where the Mayor delivered a short speech to those parade attendees and the townsfolk who looked on. He said:

"Today we unite across faiths, cultures and backgrounds to remember the sacrifice and service of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life."

"We are thankful for those who gave their lives while serving, and we are thinking of those who have lost someone they love."

"Thank you for your sacrifice"

"We remember the sacrifice of the armed forces and their families from the UK and the commonwealth – the vital role played by the emergency services and those who have lost their lives as a result of conflict or terrorism."

The ceremony was live streamed by the Town Council on social media for those unable to attend.

The Town Council will also host an event to mark Armistice Day tomorrow (Monday 11th November 2024) with a brief ceremony involving the Mayor, Councillors, and students from local primary schools.
