A historic night for Montgomeryshire as it elects its first ever Labour MP.
Steve Witherden has done it. He will become the first Labour MP for Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr in its history.
Oliver Lewis for Reform came 2nd. Incumbent and suspended conservative, Craig Williams came 3rd.
Mr Williams thanked his team and the voters from the old seat of Montgomeryshire for “his dream job to represent his home town”.
He also “put on record my apology to my team and family” and described it as being “the honour of his life".
To Steve Witherden, he added: "Treasure it, it’s a great job."
Expect lots of analysis in the coming hours and days as the Conservatives try and work out what went wrong - in their safest seat in Wales.
The elections took place on July 4, with the count and declaration taking place in Builth Wells.
MPs split their time between working in Parliament and working in their constituency - the area they represent in Parliament. In their constituency they will often hold meetings called surgeries, where local people can attend to discuss issues important to them. In Parliament they can raise these issues with other MPs or government ministers, as well as debate and vote on new laws.
Turnout was 43,457 votes (58.69%)
