Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council have declared that last week's Tidy Newtown Week was an 'overwhelming success'.

Tidy Newtown Week, which took place last week, was organised by the Town Council with help from partners such as Keep Wales Tidy and Powys County Council and saw volunteers and partners taking to the streets to litter pick and tidy up our town.

The action took place in Maes y Dail, Maesyrhandir, Garth Owen, Treowen, Vaynor, Trehafren, Llanllwchaiarn, Cae Cymric, Edwards Field, Commerical St and the Town Centre.

On Saturday 30th September, a litter picking trail competition took place at Hafan yr Afon with a collection of eco activities for children and a sewing workshop. 'Coral', a clownfish shaped cage was also present, allowing people to dispose of their crisp packets. Coral was built by the British Ironwork Centre and Scultpure Park as part of a UK-wide schools campaign to reduce the waste entering the environment.

In a statement, the Town Council said:

"A heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every one of you who contributed to making 'Tidy Newtown' an overwhelming success!"

"A special shout-out to our partners and supporters: Keep Wales Tidy, Powys County Council Housing, Newtown Rotary Club, Jill Robinson, Ysgol Cedewain, Maesyrhandir Primary School, Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd, Maldwyn Leisure Centre, NPTC Newtown Campus, Barcud, Wales & West Housing Association, River Severn Custodians, and countless volunteers who dedicated their time throughout the week. Your phenomenal efforts made a visible difference!"

"We'd also like to express our gratitude for everyone who attended our town centre event on Saturday. Thanks to John Warburton, Textile Junkies, Keep Wales Tidy, and Powys County Council for helping make it a resounding success."

"If you've been inspired by this week and wish to continue the hard work, Newtown Town Council offers litter picking kits for volunteers. You can also find them at Newtown Library and Hafan Yr Afon. Your commitment to keeping our town clean is invaluable."

"For those who want to be part of future projects or have ideas to share, please don't hesitate to get in touch! We welcome your involvement and enthusiasm."
