Town councillors will be listening intently next week as they hear an update from Jo Lewis and Guy Edwards from Mid Wales Tourism on a bespoke loyalty scheme for towns in Mid Wales.

The scheme, which is funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF) will provide rewards and incentives for shopping locally.

According to Mid Wales Tourism, the initiative is set to be launched in six towns across Powys, and has shortlisted Newtown "recognising its potential to contribute significantly to th eoverall vibrancy and economic health of the region".

The scheme will consist of a business 2 business platform, a consumer website and a portal for individuals. The system will offer tokens, offers and rewards and seek to gamify shopping locally.

Just last year, All About Newtown consulted on plans for a loyalty scheme for Newtown, but now due to the implementation of this competing scheme, we are forced to drop our plans.

Town councillors will be given the opportunity to ask questions during the presentation.
