A planning application by Mid Wales Property to refurbish and extend two iconic buildings on New Road in Newtown has been approved by planners.
The proposal involves the redevelopment of the historic townhouses, Nythfa and Tyr Y Bobol, to create high-quality, energy-efficient homes.

The plans include the renovation of Nythfa and Tyr Y Bobol, built between 1843 and 1884, to transform the existing 15 bedsits/flats into 13 one-bedroom high-quality flats, showcasing a reduction of two flats.
These buildings, constructed during Newtown's industrial expansion era, stand out for their grandiose presence on the residential street despite not being listed properties.
Barcud has been collaborating with the applicant on this project, aiming to enhance the site and provide improved housing options for the community.
The planning application drew four public objections, focusing on concerns such as parking provision, traffic congestion, impact on neighboring properties, and the preservation of the historic character of the area.
In response to these concerns, planners carefully assessed the proposal to ensure it aligns with the character of the local environment and minimizes adverse effects on the neighborhood.
Town councillors supported the plans back in September.
