A main route into the town will be closed this week for resurfacing works.

In a move aimed at improving the town's infrastructure, Newtown residents and visitors are advised of an upcoming road closure on Lower Canal Road.

Potential disruption starting at 28/10/2024 08:30am. Click here for more information.

The Lower Canal Road, or the B4568, will undergo resurfacing works starting on October 28, 2024, at 8am, and scheduled to end on November 1, 2024, at 4pm.

It is likely that the road may be intermittently open during this period, especially as the works span multiple days.

The resurfacing works, described as vital for maintaining the road's condition, are being overseen by Powys County Council.

Despite the closure, emergency vehicle access will be maintained, and property access for residents along the route will also be preserved.

To assist road users during this period, an official diversion route has been provided. Drivers are advised to take the diversion via Aberbechan and subsequently return to Newtown using the bypass route.

For more detailed information on the roadworks and any updates, you can view more information here.
