Efforts on the new active travel bridge in Newtown are ongoing, but delayed due to critical component shortages.
The bridge structure was successfully lifted into place over the River Severn in June, marking a significant milestone in the project timeline.

Since then, work has been progressing steadily to install the bridge deck, construct connecting paths, and finalize the surrounding landscaping and outside gym area.
According to the County Council, despite facing challenges related to the project's location and complexity, the overall progress has been positive so far.
However, a delay in receiving critical components necessary for the safety barriers on each side of the bridge, known as parapets, has pushed the anticipated completion date into the New Year. The components are being manufactured, tested, and shipped from Switzerland, with the installation expected to take place once they arrive.
Funded by the Welsh Government with support from Transport for Wales, the new bridge aims to establish a safe link for active travel between communities, businesses, and amenities on both sides of the river. This will connect the riverside path and communities on the west of the River Severn to Pool Road on the eastern side.
Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, emphasized the project's importance, stating:
"This project will add to the growing network of active travel routes throughout the county and will make it easier for the people of Newtown to make short journeys such as to work, school, or the local shops, by bike or on foot, rather than having to get in the car."
Expressing gratitude for the local community's cooperation throughout the project, Charlton added, "We know they are as eager as us to see the bridge finished and opened to the public as soon as possible."
