The Newtown 10k run, which took place on 21st May 2023, has been declared a resounding triumph, thanks to the outstanding support and commitment of the local community.

With a noteworthy total of 557 participants joining the event, the race attracted widespread interest and praise from all sides. However, what stood out most was the incredible fact that 555 of the runners crossed the finish line, a testament to the dedication and perseverance of the participants.

This successful event also resulted in raising an estimated £7,000 for charitable causes. This achievement underscores the meaningful and positive influence such events can exert on the community.

The integral role played by Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and several local businesses was fundamental to the organization and eventual success of the Newtown 10k. A special note of recognition goes to Control Techniques, Hilltop Honey, SJ Roberts, Lowfield Timber Frames, Makefast, Outdoor Toys, 23 Social, Open Newtown, and WiPAK for their significant contributions to the event.

Mayor of Newtown Cllr John Byrne said:

“Both the Triathlon and Newtown 10k event is a shining example of how a community can come together to achieve something great. It is a testament to the determination, hard work, and dedication of all involved and exemplifies the community's spirit and support. Well done to all participants of both Montgomery Canal triathlon and Newtown 10K.”.
