A major route into Newtown is to be closed on Friday 19th July for 'urgent safety repairs'

Powys County Council will be closing the iconic Newtown Long Bridge on the 19th July 2024 for urgent safety repairs.

  B4568 - Longbridge Street

Potential disruption starting at 19/07/2024 08:00am. Click here for more information.

The bridge and Long Bridge Street (from the Crescent roundabout to the top of Broad Street) will be closed between 8am and 3pm.

The official diversion route will be via Pool Road and Back Lane. More information on the closure can be found here.

Built in 1827 by Thomas Person, the Long Bridge replaced an existing bridge and was widened in 1857 due to increased traffic and the growth of the Penygloddfa area. The bridge is an iconic part of Newtown's heritage.
