The Economy & Environment Committee of Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is set to meet at a special meeting on Tuesday 16th August 2022 at 6:30pm to discuss plans for the demolition of Croesawdy in New Road.

Croesawdy, the former site of the college in Newtown is not a listed building and a site notice has been published. The plan includes demolition of all properties on the site.

The application process for the proposed demolition is different from usual planning applications, which would appear on the Powys County Council Planning Portal. This application for demolition is made under a process called 'permitted development' which requires the applicant to give notice to the planning authority of their intent.

In a report to councillors from the Town Clerk, he states that:

"The property is not a listed building nor in a conservation area, so no listed building consent or conservation area consent is needed."

"The process is at Step 1 –application has been made and certain information on method and restoration has been providedby the developer. The town council has been consulted and is invited to form its response."

"The local county councillor for the ward, Cllr Joy Jones, has ‘called in’the matter to the County Council Planning, Taxi Licensing & Rights of Way Committee, which meets Thursday 18th August 2022 at 10.00am."

The accompanying meeting papers for town councillors includes the demolition method statement, ecological assessments and pre-construction information and can be found here - https://newtowntc.sharepoint.com/:f:/s/NewtownCouncil/EvzGrG2dgZFFhF5Zt_7YA0YBSyHPLrg945NbEjeK6nxgzQ?e=fbItaK
