Thanks to the "Local Places for Nature" grant 2023/24, the town council are taking crucial steps towards creating a more vibrant and environmentally-friendly space in Newtown.

The grant, funded by the Welsh Government has awarded funding to the Powys Nature Partnership for this initiative.
The aim is to bring nature closer to where people live, work, and access public services, with the understanding that it can greatly contribute to improved mental and physical well-being.
By partnering with the Powys Nature Partnership and Powys County Council, Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is leveraging the generous grant to make significant progress in transforming Union Street.
In a statement the Council said:
"We believe that integrating nature into our urban environment is crucial."
"Creating green spaces within our town not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also promotes a healthier and more sustainable way of living. We hope to encourage our community to actively participate in the project, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in our environment."
"We are currently in the process of obtaining quotations for the Union Street project from landscape architects. Their expertise will help us bring our vision to life, ensuring that Union Street becomes a welcoming and thriving place for both residents and nature."
