Union Street is on the cusp of a transformative journey, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and a local landscape contractor.

The 'Warp & Weft Pocket Park' project has achieved significant milestones, bringing the community closer to a picturesque shared space seamlessly integrating nature and communal life.

Construction, in partnership with the local landscape contractor, is progressing steadily. The foundation for the Corten sign, trellis, and the majority of picket fencing is set to conclude by Christmas.

Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council and the contractor have strategically planned construction activities, ensuring safety during the festive season. Importantly, no pending excavations will linger over Christmas, with the remaining work scheduled for early January, paving the way for an eagerly anticipated planting phase in the upcoming Spring season.

The project received a welcome boost with additional funding from The Powys Nature Partnership, aligning with the Local Places for Nature initiative. This collaboration emphasizes a shared commitment to cultivating green spaces that not only enhance the town's visual appeal but also contribute to the preservation of local biodiversity.

The vision for Union Street transcends mere aesthetics. What was once a nondescript grassy area is poised to become a sanctuary for residents and wildlife alike. Dedicated zones will support local biodiversity, featuring pollinator shrubs and wildflowers, promising not only visual allure but also a flourishing habitat for the area's diverse flora and fauna.

Central to this initiative is community engagement. Accessible seating and a picnic bench are integral features, designed to encourage residents to embrace and relish the green space at the heart of Union Street. A raised bed adorned with climbing plants and shrubs will add to the area's allure, creating an inviting environment for all to enjoy.
