Are you interested in joining our small team to help keep the residents and visitors of Newtown informed about the latest, most relevant stories?

We're currently on the lookout for a reporter or contributor to join our volunteer directors and help keep Newtown informed and up to date. We're looking for someone with excellent communication skills who is willing to give up a small amout of time each week to help our not-for-profit organisation.

All About Newtown is a community interested company, established to promote Newtown to residents, visitors, businesses and more. It provides high quality, ad-free content including stories, events, things to do and interactive tools. Our website was established in 2017 as newtown.wales and renamed to All About Newtown in May 2023.

The position is voluntary and unpaid, but has the potential to become paid following approval of grant application(s).

Role Description

  • Position: Reporter / Contributor
  • Type: Volunteer (Unpaid) with potential to become paid following approval of grant application(s).
  • Hours: Approximately 3 hours per week (will be less at certain periods).
  • Location: Fully Remote

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, and contribute high-quality news articles, features, and stories that reflect the interests and concerns of the Newtown community, including stories from local public bodies including Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council.
  • Collaborate with other team members, editors, and contributors to ensure cohesive and comprehensive coverage of local news and events.

Person Specification

  • Essential - Excellent writing and communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Essential - Strong research skills to gather accurate and relevant information.
  • Essential - Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Essential - Passion for community engagement and local news.
  • Essential - Access to the Internet and the ability to contribute to our management tools and watch proceedings of meetings remotely using your own equipment.
  • Desirable - Familiarity with social media platforms.
