Newtown residents and visitors gathered at the Newtown parkrun and junior parkrun this weekend to participate in the weekly 2k or 5k community event.

This Saturday and Sunday morning tradition, starting at 9am, saw a total of 271 participants come together to walk, jog, run, volunteer, and spectate along the picturesque course.

Among the top finishers this week, Liam Busby claimed the first position, achieving an impressive time of 17:13 on his first visit. Huw McCrath secured the second spot with a new personal best of 17:47, closely followed by Neil Godsell who also set a new PB of 17:53. Gwern ap Rhobat clocked in at 19:02 with a remarkable PB of 18:43.

Notable performances also include Richard Mason setting a new personal best, Keith Barrow achieving a PB of 19:32, and Jack Copson with a time of 19:49.

Once again, Hannah Thomas led the female participants, finishing with a time of 19:58 - setting a new personal best.

Junior Parkrun

The Hafan yr Afon junior parkrun on Sunday morning saw young participants showcasing their running skills. Logan M took the top spot with a new PB of 07:56, followed by Charlie M and Charlie G who both achieved new personal bests.

Additional standout performances include Harvey E and Braedyn L, both achieving new PBs. The top female finisher was Kayzia B with a time of 09:50 and a new personal best.

A special shoutout to the dedicated volunteers who make Newtown parkrun possible each week - so thanks to Hazell Arthur, Naomi Baker, Susan Bonsall, Ivor G. Breeze, Rachel Butler, Patricia Davies, Andrew Ellis, Katie Evans, Em Evison, Phoebe Evison, Mark Green, Jenni Gregory, Jill Hillman, Richard L Jones, Cheryl Lewis, Jack Lewis, James Love, Philippa Petch, Sarah Sanford, Andrew Sherlock, Catherine Sherlock, Gwyneth Tyrer Clarke, Laura Atkinson, Michelle Bowen, Catherine Bradley, Alison Green, Jason Jehu, Diane Jones, Gemma Jones, Ifan Jones, Helen Owen, Ruth Stafford, Jonathan Turner, Will Wardell and Paul Whiffen.
