This evening and overnight, Newtown will remain largely dry and cloudy with occasional clear periods. Blustery winds are expected in northern areas, intensifying for all by morning. Temperatures will remain mild, with a minimum of 6°C.

Tuesday

A Day of Transition Tuesday will start dry with some bright intervals before periods of rain move steadily southwards throughout the day. The region will experience windy conditions, with gales possible in coastal and upland areas. Temperatures will reach a very mild maximum of 11°C.

The Impact of the Yellow Warning From Tuesday evening, heavy and persistent rain will become a significant concern, particularly for west-facing hills. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 30-50 mm widely, with 60-80 mm in some areas and over 100 mm possible in isolated locations, especially in north Wales. Strong winds accompanying the rain could exacerbate the impact.

The rest of the week

  • Wednesday (New Year’s Day): The rain is expected to clear southeastward by afternoon, but very windy conditions will persist, with the possibility of snow in northern areas.
  • Thursday and Friday: The week will conclude with a marked drop in temperature, bringing colder, brighter conditions and sharp overnight frosts. Icy patches are likely, so caution is advised.
